Huai-Pu Chen, just like my name, a gem in its rough, to have an original heart. I have loved the ocean since I was a child, especially fascinated by the fish. I am currently studying at the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University. My dream is to become the first Taiwanese ocean explorer in the National Geographic Society.

The ocean is the inner space. It took human beings more than two thousand years to explore less than 10% of the ocean. I want to use scientific research to help humans explore the unknown 90% of the ocean, and make a documentary to evoke the deeper connection of Taiwanese people to the ocean. .
But I am still a student, and I don’t have a lot of funds to allow me to take an expensive foreign large-scale research ship for long-term. Therefore, I found a sailboat that can also do science but is cheaper, and it took a year and a half to find one. I sent nearly a hundred letters to foreign captains, and finally found an American sailing captain who liked my idea and invited me to go sailing together. Our boat is small, only 40 feet, but it can do a lot! The best team at sea is composed of American captain.Bryon, French chemistry student Tom, and Huai-Pu from Taiwan!

I found my lifelong passion when I was 7 years old.

In order to have the stamina and ability to explore the underwater world, I went to the sports class of Xinyi Junior High School in Keelung - swimming. This trip lasted for three years, 5 kilometers a day, and I continued to train in the cold winter.
